Restoring individual files from backup

One of the problems with conventional backups is that they are difficult to use.  WHS takes the complexity out of the processes and makes it simple.

The first step in restoring files is to sign onto the WHS Console.  This can be done from any computer on your home network.

The WHS Console will display as soon as your password has been verified.  Click on “Computers and Backup”.  Right click on a computer that had the file that you want to restore and choose “View Backups”.

Click on Details to display the Backup Details

Select the drive that you want to restore.  This is the hard drive on your computer, not the WHS.  If the file you are attempting to restore was stored in “My Documents”, then the file can be found here:  C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents.  Therefore, select the “C: (Local Disk)”, then click Open.

WHS will take a few minutes to find and catalog your backup information.

As soon as the backup has been opened, you will be presented with an Explorer-type view of the data in your backup.  From this screen, simply browse to the file that you want to restore it, right click on it and then copy/paste it back to the original location.  Simple!
