Installing the WHS Client - Step-by-step
You will want to install the WHS Client onto each PC that is in your home. Doing so will ensure that each computer is backed up each night.
The first step is to locate the Client Connector CD. Do not insert this CD into your WHS. Instead, put the CD into a PC on your network. A Welcome screen should appear within a few seconds. If not, find the setup.exe program on the CD using Explorer and double-click on it.
Click on Setup. If you are running Windows XP, then you will most likely be prompted to setup “Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0”. This is normal, so just follow the wizard until the .NET upgrade has completed. The WHS Connector installer will start automatically after the .NET upgrade has completed.

If your computer is running

Click Next, and then agree to the License Agreement. The installation only takes a few minutes on newer hardware, but do not be surprised if it takes significantly longer on XP running on older computers.
A quick screen shot will display notifying you that the setup routine is attempting to find your WHS.
As soon as setup finds your WHS, it will prompt you to enter the “Windows Home Server Password”. This can be confusing as the server really does not have a password. What the setup program is asking for is the server’s Administrator password. This is the password that you created when you first setup your WHS. Enter the password in the box provided and click Next. If by chance you have forgotten the Administrators password, click on “Forgot Password”. This will give you a hint to what your password is. (Note: This screen shot has changed slightly and needs to be updated; the button now reads “Password Hint”)

Important note: Never give the WHS password to anyone you do not trust. The WHS password is an “Administrative” password that is only used to configure the Windows Home Server. Members of your family will not need the WHS password. Instead, each user on your home network will have his own account and password.

That’s it! The
installation of the client is that simple.
Be sure to complete these steps
for every computer on your home network
Note: You may receive an error message like the one in figure #

Do not worry about this message at this time, we will take care of it in another article when we setup user accounts for everyone that will use the home network.
